This tonewood is a  rare, highly figured variation of Swietenia macrophylla, known for its stunning three-dimensional, wave-like grain pattern. While standard Honduran mahogany is prized for its stability and ease of use, the "quilted" figure—sometimes described as "blistered" or "tortoise shell"—is an extremely scarce visual phenomenon. Pieces are over thickness and large enough to make a up to a dreadnought sized acoustic guitar.
